Snowstorm in a Jar
Ingredients:
– 1 clear glass jar (12–16 oz) with a tight-fitting lid
– 1 cup water
– 2 tablespoons baby oil or vegetable oil
– 1 teaspoon white school glue
– 1 tablespoon aluminum powder or fine white glitter
– 1 drop blue food coloring (optional, for a frosty tint)
Directions:
1. Start by filling your clear glass jar about three-quarters full with clean water.
2. If you would like a frosty tint, add 1 drop of blue food coloring to the water. Stir gently to mix.
3. Next, slowly stir in 1 teaspoon of white school glue. This will slightly thicken the water and help slow down the fall of the glitter.
4. Sprinkle in 1 tablespoon of fine glitter or aluminum powder and stir gently once more to distribute it evenly throughout the mixture.
5. Now, slowly pour in 2 tablespoons of baby oil down the inner side of the jar. This oil will float on top of the water, creating a clear, swirling surface layer that enhances the snowstorm effect.
6. Once all the ingredients are combined, tightly seal the lid on the jar.
7. Give the jar a good shake to create the mesmerizing effect of shimmering snowflakes tumbling, twirling, and rising.
8. Allow the contents to settle for a moment, and then shake the jar again to experience another magical flurry.
Tips & Variations:
– Experiment with different colors of food coloring to create various effects. Consider using green, purple, or even a mix for a more vibrant snowstorm.
– For an extra touch, you can add small decorative items like mini pine cones or artificial snowflakes inside the jar before sealing, enhancing the winter-themed display
