🎃💙 What Is the Teal Pumpkin Project? 🐝✨
When Halloween rolls around, most porches are decked out with glowing orange pumpkins, spooky lights, and buckets of candy. But you may have spotted something a little different in recent years — a teal-colored pumpkin sitting proudly by the door. 💙🎃
So what does it mean? Let’s break it down, Hive Parent style! 🐝
🍬 The Challenge with Halloween Candy
Halloween is supposed to be a night of fun for every kid, but for children with food allergies (and there are a lot of them!), trick-or-treating can be stressful or even dangerous. Common treats often contain nuts, dairy, gluten, or other allergens that some kids can’t enjoy safely.
💙 The Teal Pumpkin Solution
The Teal Pumpkin Project was created by FARE (Food Allergy Research & Education) as a way to make Halloween more inclusive.
👉 When you place a teal pumpkin outside your house, it signals that you’re offering non-food treats — things like stickers, bubbles, glow sticks, pencils, or small toys. 🧩✨
That way, kids with food allergies (and even kids with special diets) can still take part in the fun without missing out. 🎉
🐝 How to Join the Project
It’s simple!
-
Get a teal pumpkin (paint one, buy one, or snag a plastic one at the store).
-
Offer non-food treats alongside candy (or instead of candy).
-
Spread the buzz by telling friends and neighbors about it!
Bonus: Lots of kids LOVE getting something different from candy in their bucket. (Parents love it too — less sugar rush at bedtime! 😅🍭)
🌟 Why It Matters
The Teal Pumpkin Project sends a big, warm message: “Every child belongs.” 🐝💛
It’s a small change that makes a huge difference for families managing food allergies — and it’s an easy way to show kindness in your community.
🐝 The Buzzy B Joins the Movement!
When The Buzzy B is at Trunk or Treat events this fall, we’ll be proudly supporting the Teal Pumpkin Movement by offering fun, non-food treats so every child can feel included. 🎃💙✨
Because no child should have to sit on the sidelines — Halloween is for everyone! 🐝🍬
✨ Final Buzz
This Halloween, consider adding a teal pumpkin to your porch. It’s not just a decoration — it’s a symbol of inclusion, safety, and community. 💙🎃🐝
